4 Tips For Keeping Your Home Clean & Hygienic

A clean and hygienic home not only ensures the well-being of your family but also sets the foundation for a healthy lifestyle. While cleaning may not be the most enjoyable activity in your busy schedule, it can also be one of the most rewarding and productive when done right. Here are 4 tips to help you keep your home clean and hygienic

1) Getting everyone on board.

If you can’t get your family on board with having a clean home, then you’re not going to be able to keep it tidy. You may have lots of willpower and a willingness to do all of that cleaning yourself, but in reality, sometimes it's just easier if everyone is willing to pitch in. After all, that means less work for you! You need everyone on board and even if they don't help out much, at least they'll support your efforts. They might not see it as a big deal or realize how important it is until something goes wrong like an illness, so try talking with them about why keeping things clean is so important.

2) Wash your hands

It sounds simple, but washing your hands is one of the best ways to reduce exposure to germs and spread them around your home. According to a survey of U.S. public health professionals by NSF International, a nonprofit group based in Ann Arbor, Mich., almost 75 percent of Americans don’t regularly wash their hands after going to the bathroom. Ew! That’s gross; it also means that bacteria and other germs are likely spreading throughout your house instead of being contained in one area—yuck!

3) Keep the floors clean

A clean floor is one of those things that can make a huge difference in your everyday life. If you are looking for something simple, opt for tile flooring. It’s easier to keep clean than carpet and will last longer with less chance of any damage. Getting a cleaning company to come in every couple of weeks or so could be your best option if you don’t have time on your hands to do it yourself. A professional cleaner has all of their equipment available at hand, so they can usually get done quicker than you would be able to with just basic products at home. Make sure you speak to them about what chemicals they use as some are harsher than others, potentially doing more harm than good if used regularly.

4) Put cleaning supplies in the most used places.

This is a smart move for several reasons. First, it’s helpful to keep cleaning supplies close to where you use them so you don’t have to waste time running back and forth from room to room trying to find what you need. Second, by keeping your supplies in one place—e.g., your kitchen cabinet or bathroom closet—you’ll avoid spreading germs from one area of your home to another. Third, having certain items in specific places (for example, putting paper towels in a particular spot) will help train your kids not only what items are for but also that messes should be cleaned up as soon as they happen.
